The mission of the World Indigenous Television Broadcasters Network (WITBN) is to “develop collaborative relationships between indigenous television broadcasters in order to create opportunities for:
- increased audiences; better access to resources;
- enhanced knowledge transfer;
- improved understanding of indigenous issues by all audiences;
- strategic international leadership;
- enhancement of schedules through programme exchange;
- and reaching out to all other indigenous television broadcasters”.
Initiatives such as a proposed ‘Programme Exchange Scheme’ are now being considered by the Network.
The Network is also looking at the development of a 30-minute weekly indigenous news ‘wrap-up’ programme of the major news stories of WITBN member organisations.
It is envisaged that a pilot with the new WITBN branding will be produced by December 2008.
